Just to show off - the Java applet below finds primes numbers. The algothrym only checks primes whose square is less than the current number. For example, evaluating numbers from 2 to 4, only 2 needs to be checked. From 5 to 9, only 2 and 3. From 10 to 25 only 2, 3, or 5. Thus, the speed to find a prime is faster than checking all prime numbers up to the value in question. Often, it is the little things that can make a big difference.
